The Plott Hound is named after Jonathan Plott, who developed the breed in the mid-eighteenth century. The Plott Hound is the only completely American purebred Hound. A Plott Hound can stand up to a bear. Plotts are the only dog breed original to North Carolina. Plotts are very rare outside of the southeastern U.S.
